introduction

Thanks for visiting quinn[at]higurashi. So you wonder what this site is about. Higurashi is one of the species of cicadas living in Japan. Are they noisey? Yes, they are loud but I think their sound is much nicer than the others. They live in mountains and make sounds in cooler hours like in the evenings. I like to hear them because the sounds give me pleasant feelings during the hot, humid summer days in Japan. Anyway, this site contains lots of personal thoughts about web, life and whatever come out from me. I would like to discuss with other people especially on the subject: how to develop better web sites. Certainly, this site does not reflect the views of my employer or anybody else other than who posts the words.

who?

who? Quinn? Well, I am a web developer in Japan, though I've got a diploma in California, USA. I am happily married, living in the small village in Japan with three children and my beautiful wife.

I slowly learned HTML and CSS when I bought my first Macintosh in 1998. I gradually got hooked in web design but had a long time struggling to get what I want. Around the time in 2001, I was introduced into PHP and Fireworks which blasted the world of web development for me. I quickly perfected NN4 and other web browser compliant design method using TABLE LAYOUT. Time has passed by while I was more exploring into web development with PHP and SQL. I finally met WEB STANDARDS in late 2004. I developed quinn[at]higurashi from scratch which provides proper XHTML1.0 Strict and CSS, driven by PHP and PostgreSQL at my home web server built with FreeBSD.
