New Tool at Home

We bought an iMac G5 17” because my wife needs a better tool to play with her graphics and internet experiences. I am also having a big wish that she can help me on some work, perhaps on graphics! She has been using a laptop with very poor display, so this is going to be a huge jump to bigger screeen, lots of memories, faster CPU and Mac OS X.
By the way, we got the iMac using an online auction service, Yahoo Japan Auction. I’ve been having fun using their service for quite a while. It’s dominant in Japan and the popularity is a blast.
There once was eBay Japan but ended on March 2002. I wonder if some of you are surprised to hear this. I think that the success of an auction service relies alot on its numbers of users. It is not easy to come after the first one.
Anyways, I’m hoping she is going to have lots of fun with it!
Work Overloaded

It's been busy, so intense at work. I'm hoping that finishing these projects will help to build up my portfolio. So, I'm just putting all my energy into work as much as I can. Anyhow.. I envy those people who are at South By Southwest this week.
Everyone on the earth seems to be in Austin, Texas right this minute! No, it's not everyone on the earth but lots of web developers I admire are there at one place. Last time I visited Texas, I felt the place was so foreign even though I had been living in California for many years. It was a bit shocking when I saw that bottles of tabasco sauce were prepared for each person on a table at meal!
I quit my day job almost the same time I started this blog. I had some plans but they didn't work out well. By the contrast, not having a day job, I was really happy to be able to visit Vancouver in February. However, I didn't expect I would be this much busy when I get back home. I am developing an ecommerce website for a local company. This is enough big project for me already since I have to do everthing to launch the website all by myself. I am also asked to redesign a website which already exists. So, I am doing graphics, writing codes in XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript, architecting all the framework with PHP and PostgreSQL, and building the web server. Doesn't it sound crazy? It is crazy that I still think I'm handling this well. It may not be the same next time I post for this blog though. Let's see..
After Thoughts

I know.. It's been two weeks since I came back from Vancouver, and still no blogging about what happened there? I've been extremely busy these days. Lots of work are coming in, and some of them are due in this month. I was working so intensely, but I had to get some rest yesterday since I felt a little sick. Today, I am recovered, trying to lay back still, so I am blogging.
It was so amazing that I was able to face to those who are involeved in developing Sxore, Ma.gnolia, WordPress, Drupal, Flock and so on.. in one place! I was actually able to introduce myself to some people who bumped on me. Here are some of my afterthoughts..
- How to add sxore to your blog by Weston from SXIP
- Yeah, I've been seeing so many Drupal sites around Vancouver area and it's way exploding! I can't help thinking there should be one central authorization for these many websites out there. Don't you just use the same name to sign in anyway? Obviously, I'm not the only one who think about it. SXORE may be the answer for this, so I should give a try on this. The plug-in is only available for WordPress at this moment. I installed it to my another blog and I'll to see how it works. I would like to enable Sxore on this blog as well in the future. Only thing that catches me is that the flourish of this service relies on their availablity and popularity. I think they definitely should support for Drupal.
- Akismet by Matthew Mullenweg
- This is spam fighter plugin for WordPress, and also it seems something to do with identity as well. Oh, he is the guy making WordPress?! Hum, I personally never had a probem with spammers since this blog is handmade by me. Even my another blog, run by WordPress, doesn't have any spam coming in, at least not yet.. Akismet requires WordPress.com membership to get an API key. It's kind of funny that making my WordPress blog to be able to use Akismet, I need to make another blog at WordPress.com? I really don't know how I would use the WordPress.com blog. Anyways, He is going for making a blog tool that his mother can handle! I think it says alot. WordPress is already a really good software for making blogs and websites. Well, it looks like an very easy solution for someone having trouble fighting against spammers. I still have to dig on this further. Again, I'd like to see if I can make this work on this (handmade) blog.
- AJAX for Geeks with Dave Johnson
- It was a brief AJAX introduction. He talked not much more than I knew. Oh, I just found that they are hiring! I am playing some AJAX for the project I am developing now. It seems not too hard. I'm probably pretty good at this, considering being anti-JavaScript web developer for a long time.
- Ma.gnolia
- I've been actually using this since their Public Developer Preview released. I think it even feels good to use this tool because their graphics are pretty and their interfaces are nicely done. I found out that this is built with Ruby on Rails. It seems buggy on my browser somehow, using their bookmarklet, slashes and some other charaters becomes url encoded... Oh, I just found out my bookmarklet is different from the current one. So, I guess I just should use the new one instead. I hope someone could tell me about this though. I'm already in the mood to switch from del.icio.us. I'll see how this service goes.
Ok, that's it for now. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy some of my photos on Flickr.
