A Pop Star Who Speaks Japanese?

I know only a few Japanese blood who made it to American pop music scene. However, I didn't know anybody who actually speaks Japanese in the business. But it's changed. The singer is Marie Digby. She was speaking Japanese perfectly on a radio show in Japan the other day. I think it is very nice. Also, the story of her success was interesting. She was so frustrated with her label not promoting her enough, so she put a video on YouTube on her own. The video became so popular, which eventually led to her success. It leaves me a question; "what she needs a contract with her label for?" All she needed was YouTube.

I also heard that her grandma lives in Kumamoto and visits her so often. Maybe, I encounter her on street some day in Kumamoto. :) Hum, I wonder if she uses Twitter...

Afterstorm: Blognation Japan Launch Party

I live in the edge of Japan. I always felt like I am so far away from Tokyo and all the fun those incredible web developers are making there. It looks like things are about to change for me now. I wasn't really expecting Robert Sanzalone would bring this much excitement back from his Blognation Japan launch Party held at Shibuya in the last week. I was invited to join Blognation Japan chat room (Skype) and was so nice to meet new people there today. I'm hoping that I can help bridge Robert and those awesome developers. I'm so happy to be a part of this. Thank you, Robert.

And, this is the link to lead you to join the public chat. (Skype)

Little Persimmon

Persimmon It's time to enjoy the ripe fruits in Japan! We have a little persimmon tree in the backyard. I just couldn't ignore to see the orange fruits getting ready to be eaten. If we don't take those, birds are going to have too much fun or they are just going to be rotten. So, we decide to climb up the little tree and have some for ourselves. How are you enjoying the season at your place?

Sound of Higurashi

Posted by Quinn at August 5th, 2007 9:44am under Japan 6 Comments Permalink

Higurashi Cicada The most humid and hottest month of year is August in Japan (or is it so in most places in the northern hemisphere?) Anyway, Since I moved to here, a small village in the mountain side of Japan. I've been enjoying hearing the sound of Higurashi cicada at the evenings of hot summer days. Their sounds are nicer than other kinds of cicadas, which are loud in hot day time.

I wanted to give a hint of what I am talking about to those who think Japan is still in the mystery part, so I am posting the sound here. (finally!)

Excuse me if the quality of the sound is not good for you. This was my first try recording the sound. I would suggest not to set your volume to high though. I hope you enjoy!

Updated: I added Odeo player for this audio file, so you can play the sound easier.
